What Next in Global Development? Roundtable Discussion with Dr. Homi Kharas
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have been a central reference point for aid and international cooperation since their inception in 2000. As the 2015 end date for the MDGs approaches, the world is asking, what comes next?
To answer this important question, the Secretary-General of the United Nations appointed a High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda and tasked them with providing recommendations on what the successor framework to the MDGs should look like. In May 2013, the Panel released its report, A New Global Partnership: Eradicate Poverty and Transform Economies through Sustainable Development.
On July 25th, 2013, NSI convened a roundtable with Canadian business, civil society, and academic communities to discuss the report and its implications for global and Canadian engagement on international development.
The discussion was chaired by Kate Higgins, who leads the Governance for Equitable Growth program at NSI, with special guests, Dr. Homi Kharas,?Executive Secretary of the High-level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda and Lead Author of the Panel’s report, and Molly Elgin-Cossart, Chief of Staff of the High-level Panel Secretariat.
