Brown Bag – Mapping Private Sector Engagements in Development Cooperation
This brown bag lunch presented the findings from a mapping study that resulted from the collaboration between two?IDRC?research awardees and two researchers from the?North South Institute, between February and June 2013. This report presents the findings from a preliminary exploration into how different development cooperation actors engage the private sector for development, and unpacks the various ways in which private sector’s engagements occur in different policy environments.
The main contributions of the study intend to help development practitioners think about the difference among key concepts related to the private sector and collaborations for development, and show the different types of engagement modalities with private sector actors that seek to achieve development objectives. The ideas and evidence presented help to frame the discussion about the potential implications of private sector engagements for development organizations.
